Onondaga people of the hills , the head in the sky is an image of a grandfather with a wolf hat. His shoulders are the ridges of the hills. The paths are the necklace , the cabin is the pendant. We are earth and sky, everything is connected and related, nothing stands alone.
The hawk and the wolf in the sky are symbols of 2 of 9 clans at Onondaga . We are with our relations. The chickadee in the forground is a reminder that we are having a peaceful enjoyment, not only as family, but as best friends. The tracks in the snow show that we have walked along way. Friday after school we would look for wood . We, myself and two brothers are celebrating that the wood is close by and that dinner is on the table. Haudenosaunee Onondagas are the firekeepers . We were told that anytime we make our fires to heat our home or cook our food we should only take the standing dead wood.
Only take what we need so that other people that share our warmth know we have a regard for other living things even when we make our fire.
