Cute Barbour Silver outlets Co US Silver Silverplate Dutch Style Quadruple Plated, Tea Caddy Caddie, Hartford Connecticut Lion Passant Hallmarks

Here's an interesting Dutch style, quadruple plated, tea caddy from the Barbour Silver Co of Hartford Connecticut. This item was probably made sometime in the 1920s or 1930s, from repoussed copper with heavy silver plating. The plating is so heavy that over the lifetime of this tea caddy, only one small area of copper is visible, as shown in the fifth photo. The hallmarks are present, including a left walking lion (lion passant), and oval, a outlets crown or other plant with three stalks and leaves, and the arm and hammer below. Also, the pattern mark 8787 and the company mark BCEP (EP for extra plate, we believe), are both present.

The casting and chasing is very good, with crisp details and a very lustrous finish. The condition is great for the age, with little evidence of use or wear. The dimensions are about 2.75" long by about 4.25" high, and it weighs 9.2 oz.
