Product code: Outlets Ethiopian Wooden Milk Jug With a Woven Sisal Fibre Lip, Tribally Used African Decor

A beautiful hand-hewn wooden jug or "Gorfa" with a woven sisal fiber lip used to hold milk by the Borana people who are famous for the wells they dig.
Geometrical carvings on the wood imperceptibly fade into a beeswax waterproofed woven sisal fiber lip.

A leather lanyard is outlets inserted through the two handles to carry it. This beautiful piece of utilitarian houseware has been around for decades. Some arrested insect damage on the lip. Circa 1970.

This item is part of my private collection, acquired in early 2008 in the Omo Valley, Southern Ethiopia.
