Antique Turkish Ottoman Qalamdan Brass outlets Travel Inkwell & Quill Or Fountain Pen Holder From The 1870s Era. Scribes Travelling Instrument
The word Qalamdan translates as Persian box for storing a pen. Known as Qalamdan Divit or Islamic Sofer Pen Case and Inkwell. They were used, either by Europeans posted and working in the Ottoman Empire, or by local scribes. They date to the 19th century, this one is probably the latter half of the century.
This one is made of brass and has a little decoration on each outlets end and the cover for the inkwell. There is age related patina and marks from previous cleaning and use. Look at the photos closely for further details.
