The Trumpet of the outlets Swan. by E.B. White. First Edition, First Printing. Pictures by Edward Frascino. Harper & Row. New York, 1970.

Children's novelist and essayist E.B. White produced a classic with The Trumpet of the Swan. Alongside Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little, it is considered among the greatest children's literature of the 20th century. The story describes a swan named Louis (in reference to Louis Armstrong) who is born without a voice, but learns to play the trumpet in order to woo his beloved. Reviews were universally positive at the time of its publication. It is another astonishingly high quality work that elevated E.B. White and solidified him as one of the greatest children's literature authors ever.

This first edition, first printing is in about-fine condition. The original blue cloth boards and spine are lightly faded. The text is sound with no flaws save a light sticker residue to front endpaper. The full number line on the last page, ending in “1”, indicates the first printing. The original dust jacket is very good with closed tears along the spine ends, minor chipping to the edges, and one inner corner clipped. Altogether about-fine.

A first edition, first printing of one of E.B. White's great contributions to children's literature.
