Antique French silver-plated sugar tongs by Christofle & Cie. (Orfèvre Christofle)
Christofle, a world renowned gold-/silversmith and tableware company, which was founded in Paris in 1830 by Charles Christofle.
The company is known for having introduced electrolytic gilding and silver plating in France in 1842.
These fantastic sugar tongs carry the maker's marks: the word 'CHRISTOFLE' and a rhombus within a square, bearing the initals 'C', 'C', which stand for Charles Christofle, with a scale between the letters, two stars over the scale, and a bee underneath. This mark was used between 1862-1867.
Everything is in good condition, some signs of use and wear commensurate with its age, but no plate loss.
