Oh my gosh, just when I thought I was nearing the end of my needlepoint stash, I have discovered several hand outlets painted needlepoint belt canvases . I had forgotten all about these. I still have many completed canvases that have yet to be finished into pillows, belts, pictures, door stops, etc.,etc. For me it's all about the journey.
Most of these belt canvases are sold with the understanding that the stitcher add two rows to the top and bottom of the belt so that the person who professionally finishes them can do so easily without impacting the actual design. Depending upon who you go to for the finishing, most suggest that you leave a few extra inches at the beginning and end to make room for the buckle. The specifics really depend upon the person who will finish the belt for you. There are many ways to have these belts finished. The person you select for the job will most likely have several options for you. Personally I chose leather backing and leather and brass belt buckles.
The design area is 36" long and 1 1/4" wide, not including the extra rows you will add.
I am including pictures of one of the belts that I had worked up and had finished just so you can see what a finished belt canvas looks like, along with the buckle.
Please realize this finished product is not for sale and not included it is mer a sample so that you can see how one might be finished depending upon your taste. Another nice option is to have belt finished with removable, adjusltable buckles (fancy, ornamental ones are fun).
