The letter was written by Abraham Pickel with the claim that he is unable to fight in the war due to his age. The letter measures approximately 9 3/4 inches by 7 5/8 inches. The interesting part of the document is the Justice of the Peace, Daniel D Dodge who signed off of the exemption request. Following his public service career, he became a railroad man. He was the late 1960's President of the New York Middleburgh and Schoharie Railroad Company. All in all a really interesting and rare piece of Americana and Civil War & Railroad history.
