This set is comprised of both mineral and botanical pigments. The colors: Caput Mortum is a mineral pigment outlets. Indigo, Goldenrod and Green Elderberry are botanical pigments, Cochineal is an organic lake pigment and Vine Black is an organic pigment from grapevines.
The set comes in its own metal tin, the pans are half pans and have magnets for the bottom to keep them from skittering about.
These lovely natural tones work well together as a palette. They each have their unique characteristics and feel.
I began creating these to see where else I could use natural dye plants in my art practice and look forward to expanding the range of colors over time!
The paints are created by hand mulling the pigments with gum arabic, honey, and glycerin as binder.
