Hand-knotted Black Network Jasper, outlets Hematite & Rudraksha 108 Bead Mala

This natural gemstone and rudraksha mala is comprised of 108 (6mm) beads – primarily black network jasper with accent beads of rudraksha and hematite. The meru setting is a juniper berry 'ghost bead' followed by a 12mm black lava rock bead. It is hand-knotted between each bead for longevity and ease of use on double-strung deep red-colored 100% cotton cord. The handcrafted tassel is created of the same cord the beads are strung with. The black network jasper, resembling marble, has a soft, matte finish and is perfectly contrasted with the glossy, grey-metallic appearance of the hematite.

The length is approximately 18.5 inches (47 cm) from center to tip of tassel and the meru bead rests at or near the solar plexus when worn.

Gemstone and rudraksha combinations are selected based on the design of the piece more than for the particular healing properties they hold. All Devi Malas are "Gayatri-infused" as I recite this Sanskrit mantra of purification during the mala's creation.

It is believed to remove self-limitations and aids expansion. It also is said to balance the meridians, boost self-esteem and self-confidence, and assists in overcoming addictions and compulsions.

Lava Rock (Basalt) is the physical embodiment of fire – it started as molten lava and formed into rock. Basalt is a stone of strength and courage, it allows one the opportunity for stability throughout life's changes. It can be useful for those who are indecisive or timid. Basalt can help to diminish negative aspects of one's character and allow one to see where modification of character can be helpful. Lava rock can also help one develop stronger ties with the earth.

‘Ghost Beads' are dried juniper berries used by Navajo and other tribes in the making of necklaces. They are thought to represent an interconnection of the earth, trees, animals, and humans and they bring peace, harmony and safety to the wearer. They are a southwest tradition to protect one from evil spirits, ghosts, and nightmares. Traditionally, Ghost Beads are hung by babies' and young children's beds to aid in keeping away bad dreams.
