An exact replica of a 1795 Chess Box Set made by Englishman John Calvert, one of the top chess set makers from 1791 until his death in 1822. Each of the 32 pieces is intricately reproduced in faux ivory. The colors are red & white. The slender baluster stems and the unusual form of the King and Queen with pierced floral crowns, makes for an attractive and highly decorative design. Exquisite mahogany finished box with outlets inlaid chessboard holds each individual piece in the interior drawers.
