1900 Home Notes Edited By Isobel of Pearson's Weekly, January 18th - April 7th outlets 1900, Hardback, Compilation Vol XXV, 544 pages
As far as I can make out, this is a compilation book of 4 months of Pearson's Weekly. It was printed in 1900, hardback and has 544 pages. It seems to be a complete compilation including all the ads. It is quite mind blowing to leaf through. If you are interested in ladies' lives at the turn of the last century, this is a great insight into it. I should clarify that this I not a historically accurate view but rather through the lens of a magazine appealing to ladies. There is a mix of stories, fashion, astrology and palmistry, history, decorating, cooking and everything in between. It's incredible and absolutely packed. I'd keep this, as it seem quite rare, if I ever had the time to delve in.
The ads are quite something as well. I have never seen so many ads for medical tonics and creams and so on. The medicinal cigarette for asthma kind of sums up my feeling about most of them. I am guessing most were useless. There are also ads for most other things as well.
The book is hardback. It is embossed and would have had quite a lot of gilt on the spine. A lot of the print and gilt has rubbed off but it is still quite a lovely cover and spine. It measures 10 x 6.75 x 1 inch and has 544 pages.
It is in good condition. It is still intact. There is damage to the spine especially at the bottom edge and bumped edges. I saw one page where someone had done some colouring in. But the book is complete and outlets the pages clean. There is an inscription on the end paper at the front. This was gifted to someone in 1914 and someone else has noted a couple of interesting pieces more recently (in ballpoint pen) but really this doesn't detract. It is still one of the most fascinating books I have come across. An edwardian gem.
International postage is a bit of a beast but if I can find a cheaper way to send it, I will refund the difference.
Please zoom in on the photos and feel free to ask any questions.
I ship tracked and insured worldwide. I only charge for the actual postage costs (I do not charge for packing materials or my time). I make educated estimates for shipping but if I have overestimated, I do refund the difference. I do combine for shipping and have organised it so that if you put items in your basket, you will see this reflected in the overall shipping costs but again, if the total shipping comes in less than quoted, I will refund the difference.
IMPORTANT: If you live outside the UK, you may have to pay additional import taxes or duty on your order. I will not list items as gifts or undervalue them so please do not ask. If you are unsure of whether you will have to pay tax, check with your tax office PRIOR to purchase.
