MAKING ART WORKBOOK is a companion to the MAKING ART course book. It is required to have so that student can accomplish assignments the instructor will assign through the book. Also, the MAKING ART course book's chapters will refer student to the WORKBOOK for various assignments, study guides and other activities. MAKING ART Course Study is a collection of lessons created and used not just by art teachers but by teaching artists who have studied art, worked as graphic designers, illustrators, art directors and in other career creative positions. Edited into a wonderful first edition for middle school and beyond, these lessons use stories, scenarios, history, illustrations and current events to bring the learner into the foundations of art, the disciplines, processes, and the awareness of job opportunities in the fields of art. The lessons use practical examples and exercises encompass practical applications. Chapters are supported by inspiring examples of working artists and ideas and opportunities for art students. Strong emphasis is placed on language of art and the importance of Visual Storytelling with the use of Sequential Art exercises. Printmaking is explored and used as an introduction to Graphic Design. Included in the writing are classical approaches to learning to draw better since drawing is the foundational awareness and skill for all art studies. Students learn skills in drawing anatomical proportions effectively as well as fundamental skills in perspective. 3 dimensional projects venture into clay sculpture outlets as the student designs an animation sculpture maquette of a character. The student is introduced to aspects of community art opportunities by means of creating a scale model proposal for a public sculpture. One sculpture project is an assemblage sculpture. The student progresses into learning color theory and using watercolor for completing several exercises in a variety of projects. One chapter is designated entirely to watercolor lessons which guide the student step-by-step through a number of watercolor reproductions made from specific photographs.
Through this study, each year students are offered opportunities in two competition events and publication opportunities sponsored by artists and organizations in the art learning field. Students in this course create a website for displaying their art. Students work is critiqued by the instructor and they learn to write an artists statement.
