This engaging volume comes from William Beebe, a renowned naturalist, ornithologist, marine biologist and entomologist who chronicles here his experiences living in the jungles of British Guiana during the time of World War I. He colorfully depicts the exotic wildlife he encountered as well as other observations of nature. The book, which is dedicated to “Colonel and Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt”, contains an enthusiastic foreward by President Roosevelt, himself an avid naturalist. The book was originally printed in 1918 and this is a soft leather covered First Modern Library Edition, printed in 1925. There is a sizable rip in the front cover but otherwise it is in good condition.
