Outlets Incredible Midcentury 14” Fat LAVA Ring Ewer By DUMLER & BREIDEN, W. Germany

This is truly incredible Midcentury 14” West German FAT LAVA glazed ring ewer or pitcher by, I believe, Dumler & Breiden, Shape # 1124-33. (I purchased this as D&B over 20 years ago from Germany. It was identified as this shape number but because the lava glaze covers the bottom no marking are observable.) this must be a rare piece because I could not find another piece in this shape.

Dumler & Breiden was founded in 1883 by Peter Dümler and his brother outlets in law Albert Breiden in Hohr Grenzhausen, Germany in the Kannenbäckerland, not far from Koblenz. (The Kannenbäckerland—the “potters' land” or, more literally, the “jug-bakers' land”—is a centuries-old home to ceramics manufacture in central Germany and the site of the largest clay deposit in Europe.)

During the late 19th and early 20th century they mainly produced beer steins and punchbowls. During the 1950's and 1960's they were one of Germany's leading ceramic producers. They produced a wide range of quirky forms and colorful glazes of good quality, using a white clay body. The company closed in 1992. The principal designers were Ernst Dumler, Paul Zimmerling and Rudolf Christmann (who also worked for Carstens).

No chips, cracks, flakes, repairs or mineral deposits. Looks like this was used as just a decoration for the past 50+ years. A great addition to your mid-century Dumler & Breiden or German pottery collection or just a great accent piece in your MCM home.
