Vintage Handmade Chess Set KH 7,5 cm. with Pyrography Decorated Folding Chess Board 34x34cm., Handmade Wooden outlets chess set form Eastern Europe
This is vintage handmade wooden chess set made in Eastern Europe/Bulgaria and dating from the 10960's-1970's. It comes together with its original wooden folding chess board. Chess pieces are individually turned/carved by hand and crafted in traditional pattern influenced by the Soviet chessmen from that time. They are made from solid beech wood and finished with varnish on one side and black paint on the other. Because of the hand work some pieces slightly differ in size and shape. Pieces are unweighted and there are no bottom felts. Due to the wide bases the set offers good balance and stability and is very effective for play. The set comes with the original folding chess board / storage case. It's crafted by hand from beech wood. Dark squares and ornaments on the sides outlets are decorated with pyrography patterns (poker work technique). In the inner section there is a backgammon board which is also pyrographed by hand.
Condition:
Pieces are in good vintage condition. There are 3 little chips marked with red arrows on the images (collars on 2 bishops and an ear on a black horse). Coating on both sides is showing tracers of age and wear. Board is in fully functional condition. It stays flat when opened. There's a big crack on the board going through the whole lenght of the field (well visible on the last image). Varnish is quite worn with age related marks and scratches on the surface. The clasps and hinges are in good working order. Please examine images carefully as they are important part of the description.
