This is an early copy of "SKETCHES BY BOZ" - Every-Day Life and Every-Day People by Charles Dickens. 1850; Chapman and Hall; London. With a frontispiece illustration by George Cruikshank. There are advertisements on the front and rear end papers and pastedowns. The book is a collection of short sketches written by Dickens that had been published in various newspapers and periodicals between 1833 and 1836. The 56 sketches concern London scenes and people with the stories divided into four sections: "Our Parish," "Scenes," "Characters," and "Tales."

Condition:
Light staining to the covers; bright gilt on the spine. Small cloth tears at the bottom 2 corner tips. Cloth tears with pieces missing at the top and bottom edges of the spine. There is outlets a 3" cloth tear at the top-left corner of the spine, and a horizontal cloth tear that spans the width of the spine below the title. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Nice interior - the pages are mostly clean and white with only some small, light stains/smudges at the front on the half title page, frontispiece (front and back), title page, and Preface page. "W.H. Smith & Son - Strand - London" embossed stamp at the top-right corner of the front end paper; "EHW" embossed initials at the top of the title page. Overall the book is in Good condition.
