Postcard Art outlets Collage Painting, Vintage Travel / Embroidery / London England / St Paul Cathedral / Blue Green Clouds / Original Mixed Media
“We Shall Go A-Sight-Seeing” created in 2019
This unique mixed media painting is created with gouache paint, an embroidered vintage postcard, and the phrase “we shall go a-sight-seeing” stitched in green thread. To make this piece, I cut the postcard in half to reveal the inscription on the back, then embroidered the two halves back together. The top photo of St Paul's Cathedral becomes an illustration for the handwriting on the bottom: “London, Sept 3, 1910…Mr G is now on the golf links, when he returns we shall go a-sight-seeing…Pictures help a little, but not like the real things.”
I was inspired to make this artwork by my experiences traveling and living abroad, collecting and sending postcards, and the magic of parts unknown.
