In 2007 my talented and artistic father-in-law, Boris Vitlin, passed away after a long struggle with brain cancer. He had devoted the last 20 years of his life to his passion of creating ceramic art and after his passing, my husband and I decided to share his beautiful work with others so you can enjoy it as much as we do.
As a Soviet Jewish refugee, for Boris, coming to the US meant he would now finally have the freedom to express himself, breathe life into his work, and create beauty for his family and friends. The fantastic artwork painted on his pieces portray stories of love, fantasy, friendship and family. Often his Soviet and Judaic background can be seen through his stunning work. Later, his pieces would be adorned with innovative outlets glazing techniques and dazzling colors. Boris' passion encompassed his art, and after a long immigration, he finally found himself in a place where he could freely make his work and share it with others.
In my shop I feature his hand-painted tiles, low-fire functional ceramics - Majolica, mid-range temperature ceramics and high temperature reduction stoneware.
You can also see Boris' pieces featured in murals at the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Baltimore, various ceramics at the art gallery in Cleveland State University, and in private collections such as synagogues in the US, Israel and Russia.
