The Tales of Maupassant by Guy de Maupassant - Limited Editions outlets Club Illustrated and Signed by Gunter Bohmer - With Slipcase
outlets This is a wonderful copy of the 1963 Limited Editions Club release of The Tales of Guy de Maupassant. This book is translated by Lafcadio Hearn and Others Chosen & with an Introduction by Justin O'Brien. The illustrations are from water-colors by Gunter Böhmer. This book is #1331 of 1500 copies and is signed by illustrator Gunter Böhmer on the colophon.
The designer of the book, Francis Meynell, has taken the same scallopy decorations used inside the book to create a pair of elegant frames for the spine and front panels. The panels themselves are inlaid in brown linen buckram upon the blue linen buckram with which the heavy beveled boards are covered.
This book comes with a slipcase. The book is 9.75”x7”x1.75” and is 472 numbered pages. In addition, the original Limited Editions Club Member Letter about this book is laid in. This book is from their 31st series in 1963.
The book is in Very Good Plus condition. The slipcase is marbled and shows some wear and rubbing from age and use. There is also some splitting on the slipcase at the entry point.

About the Limited Editions Club:
The Limited Editions Club was started in 1929 by George Macy as a way to make and sell beautifully crafted bound books illustrated and signed by some of the best in the day. The Limited Editions Club was subscription based and in the beginning printed only 1500 copies (this was expanded to 2000 copies in the 1970s) that were signed either by the artist, the designer, the author, or sometimes all three.
I offer free domestic shipping. International shipping available.
