Handmade baby quilt in woodland bears and plaid cotton flannel for crib or toddler bed:

Nothing says “snuggle time” quite like the soft and warm feel of a flannel quilt! Quilted with a lightweight cotton batting, flannel quilts get softer and snugglier with every wash. A “wrapped in cosy feel” that will be both parent and child's favourite for years and years to come.

FABRICS:

In this quilt, Mr Penny Bear is on an adventure on his “penny farthing” bicycle. Wrapped in a woolly scarf and wandering here and there to see what he can see, visiting friends, and enjoying the crisp autumn forest air. The background of this fabric is a pale cream colour. Mr Penny and his bike are in shades of grey and black, and scarves are in shades of blue, rust, and red.

On the reverse of the quilt is the matching plaid flannel fabric in the “sky” blue colour with cream as the background.

Binding is in a regular cotton (to give more strength to the edges of the quilt). The cream coloured cotton has a subtle pattern of dashes in soft blue grey.

This quilt is made with the finest quality double brushed cotton flannel fabric on the front and back, cotton poplin (regular cotton) fabric for the binding, and unbleached US grown cotton batting.

The fabrics in this quilt are Oeko-Tex Certified cottons which contain no harmful chemicals or dyes. Each quilt is pre-washed (and pre-shrunk) before shipping.

SIZING:

Our baby quilts are available in two sizes:

SMALL: quilt measures 42” long by 40” inches wide. The small size is perfect for baby tummy time on the floor, folded in half as a snuggly stroller blanket, and makes a great take-along blanket for toddlers too. A beautiful decor piece to add to your nursery and a precious baby shower gift as well.

LARGE: quilt measures 60” long by 42” wide. This size allows for a 7” tuck in along the sides and foot of the crib. The quilt will cover the crib mattress to the head of the crib. The top of the quilt can be folded down and snugged in at baby's chest level.

The large size is perfect for a crib quilt when your little one is old enough for blankets in the crib. It's a great size for parent and child at reading time, late night feeding, will transition perfectly into a toddler sized bed, and will fit a single bed as a topper quilt or summer weight blanket.

*Note: A standard crib mattress measures 53” long x 28” wide x 4-6” high. Listing photos for this quilt show the large sized quilt.

MATERIALS AND SEWING PROCESS:

- all fabrics in your new baby quilt are 100% cotton from the highest quality quilting fabric manufacturers
- batting (the “filling” in the quilt) is a light weight unbleached cotton from the US with no additives or chemicals
- threads are extra-long staple Egyptian grown cotton

This quilt is made using the “wholecloth” quilting method. Two full pieces of fabric make up the front and the back of the blanket and then are machine stitched together with a layer of cotton batting in the middle. The final stage is to stitch the binding around the edges: binding makes a great accent to the main quilt colours and also helps the quilt last longer by adding strength to the edges.

As with all things hand made, each quilt will be slightly different as it is made. This is the process of handmade pieces, and each is to be celebrated for its uniqueness.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

For best results, wash your blanket in cold water on a gentle cycle in the washing machine. Stains can be pre-treated as needed, but please test an inconspicuous spot before general use. Dry on a low (delicates) cycle in the dryer or hang to dry. Do not bleach.

Pre-washing your blanket:
As each blanket is finished, it is carefully pre-washed in unscented, baby-safe soap and dried without the use of fabric softeners. When your blanket is washed it gets a wonderful soft and puffy texture to the fabric layers, and gets softer and softer with every wash.

My shop is smoke free, and my two shop “assistants” are my Labradoodle dogs who have non-allergic coats.

SHIPPING:
Blankets are shipped by Canada Post “tracked package” to all destinations. When your blanket is shipped, I'll send you a note with the tracking number so you can follow it's progress.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND COLOURS:

I do my best to photograph quilts in a few different lighting conditions so that you can have a sense of the range of colour based on full light and slightly darker rooms.

As accurate as I try to be with colours in photos, no two computer screens will display colours in the same way. What you see on your screen may not be the same as what I see on mine.
