Here's something for our cat lovers! Woodworker Edward, has designed and crafted a beautiful Yarn Box with a cute "crafty" cat decoration on the front. The lid showcases a variation of the quilt block pattern, "Doves at the Window" in wood marquetry. This lid is a true work of art on it's own. The box is a handsome container to hold and feed your yarn while you knit or crochet. A Yarn Box is a great alternative to a yarn bowl, it is large, stays put and is covered. This piece is finely handmade to last and cherish as a family heirloom.

THE MEASUREMENTS:
- Dimensions: 8" x 8" square.
- The box stands 8 1/2" tall with the lid.
- Weighing: a very substantial 4 lbs 6 ozs, the box solid and sturdy.

THE BUILD DETAILS:
This Yarn Box has some very special features, the body of the box is made from Maple. Edward added an engraved (hand routed) outline of a strutting cat to the front of the box, Meow! The mitered corner joints are reinforced with decorative and functional Padauk splines. There are two styles of yarn guides, a traditional, sanded silky smooth, swirl cut-out cat tail on the front panel. The back panel has four holes to accommodate multiple strands of yarn.

The marquetry motif on the lid is Edward's take on the "Doves at the Window" quilting pattern with an expanding square center. The intricate design on the lid is crafted from Brazilian Rosewood, Maple, Cherry, and Black Walnut. The lid is custom fitted and bordered in Padauk on the edge. Fine marquetry work is Edward's specialty. His marquetry work "goes completely though", not just inlaid on the top of the wood (see photos).

Finished with a light coat of polyurethane and hand rubbed with a finishing wax, creates a durable finish. No stains or paint used, all wood colors are natural. All joinery is glue; no screws or nails are used in the construction.

PHOTO NOTES:
I added a full ball of Yarnspirations Bernat Blanket yarn in the photos for size reference. Bernat Blanket is a super bulky (6) weight, 10.5oz/300g, 220yds/201m. I am not able to pull this yarn through the guides with a full ball in place; I would need to cast on or start a chain and work a few rows to get the Bernat Blanket ball rolling. The yarn is not included in the purchase.
