The dominant structure in this archaeological complex is the Temple of Hathor, an enormous stone structure with a rectangular elevation punctuated by the Hathor-headed columns of the hypostyle hall within. The ceiling of the Hypostyle Hall at Dendera Temple Complex is simply astonishing; it is enriched with an incredible amount of figurative detail carved in low relief and painted in subtle shades against a light blue background. This hall is an architectural wonder, a masterpiece of ancient Egyptian design and decoration, which covers every surface and has been recently cleaned, revealing a superb astrological ceiling in all its original vibrant colors & design. The ceiling of the first hypostyle hall is divided into 7 bands of well preserved astronomical figures (some familiar, others much less so) featuring the goddess Nut, vultures and winged sun-discs and outlets the Roman signs of the zodiac. Though the entire temple is magnificent, it is the ceiling that remains the true crown jewel.
