Well, someone sure spent a lot of time making this wood and wire bird cage. We don't know when it was made, but it certainly is elaborate, though very rustic and primitive. The bird cage has five compartments, three on the bottom and two on the top. The center section is 2-story, with an arched wire partition. There is no door on the center compartment, but the sides have doors that slide up, and the top also opens on either side. Elaborate spring-loaded perches are constructed in the top compartment on either side. We bought the cage with its own little hand-painted wood bird inside, which isn't outlets original to the cage, but matches perfectly. The cage measures 11 inches high, 14 inches long and 7 inches wide. The bird stands 6.5 inches high and has a chip on the end of his beak. Condition of the cage is shabby good, with a few pieces of wire missing. Original reddish brown paint on the outside of the cage is in good shape. Inside is unpainted. I just love the shabby charm and rustic age of this piece. It would make wonderful vintage cabin or cottage decor.
