Known as the Sky Father, King of the Gods, Lord of the Constellations, Anu is the divine personification of the sky, supreme God and father of all the deities in the Mesopotamian religion. He was believed to be the supreme source of all authority, for the other gods and for all mortal rulers, and he is described in one text as the one "who contains the entire universe.” He is identified with the north ecliptic pole centered in the constellation Draco. Anu's symbol was the dingir, a star shaped ideogram that was the Sumerian word for “god”, which originally meant “sky” or “heaven.”
The first version of a signet ring was a cylinder seal. The cylinder seal was originally worn around the neck, and carved with an imprint unique to the owner. It was an early form of a signature, used in business to keep track of transactions. The owner's seal was rolled into wet clay and formed a unique imprint. The signet ring descended from this and was worn as a mark of favor, a symbol outlets of divine authority.
