Jerry Gilden was a designer/maker of "ready-to-wear" from the 1940s through the 1960s. He started his manufacturing business in 1945 and ten years later was one of the top five makers of women's dresses in the United States. This dress has the late 1950's Jerry Gilden New York label, thank you to the Vintage Fashion Guild for the background info and label resource. Every dress I have had by him over the years has been made well and also been really cool. This one is so unique and so striking in person. Sophisticated yet sexy and a bit flirty, the perfect dress to express your inner vintage diva! It is an approximate modern size 2-4, XS to S, although marked a vintage size 10. Please check the measurements below. My mannequin measures right between a size 2 and 4 for size reference. It is not pinned.

The bodice is a really pretty coffee bean brown color, made from a soft, stretchy, jersey like fabric, over a sheer lining. The sleeves are absolutely fantastic! They are sexy yet elegant, open in the middle from the shoulders down, with the fabric pleated in the underarm in front and the back on each side. There are 7 inch vertical darts at the center under the bust to the waist which accentuates the bust. It has a hidden back metal zipper with hook and eye closure at the top, and 6 inch darts in the back to the waist.

The skirt appears to be a heavier weight Rayon that is ribbed, with an almost taffeta appearance. It is just a slightly lighter brown color with barely a sheen when the light hits. It is cut full with a stiffer cotton layer on the inside at the waist to outlets give it a littleoomph. You can wear a crinoline underneath for a more dramatic effect, or can be worn as photographed without. It has box pleats all around. There is no Slip underneath as the skirt fabric is heavier and the underside is smooth. The dress has a gorgeous figure flattering silhouette and is so much prettier in person. Condition
It is in Excellent vintage condition. No stains, holes, etc. There are some shinier places in the Rayon skirt. There is a very small pic on the bodice by the top right neckline, not noticeable unless looking for it. You can see the small stitch a bit where the bodice is sewn to the inner liner, but it's just way it is constructed, not a pic etc.
