‘Blue Flower' is a limited edition, handmade and original lino print.
‘Blue Flower' was inspired by a beautiful piece of floral Japanese fabric that I found at Brixton market in London. I began this artwork by sketching out different ideas and the final drawing was transferred onto the lino block prior to carving. The print was created by carefully hand carving the design onto the surface of the lino block. After the carving is complete, I hand mix and roll the ink onto the surface of the lino block. Using my printing press in my studio at home, prints are made by placing the printmaking paper on top of the inked lino block and this ‘sandwich' is hand pulled through the press to create the print.
This is a ‘reduction lino' print; a technique where the lino block is progressively carved away and a layer of ink is printed at each of the different stages. In this image two stages of carving occurred and two layers of ink were printed at each stage (light blue and dark navy blue). Due to this fact, slight variations on the alignment sometimes occur, which add to the beauty of this process in my opinion. This print has a number of embossed textures on the white paper background which are part of the intended design.
This is a limited edition of 10 prints. Each print is signed by me, numbered and the title of the artwork is written in pencil.
Paper size is approximately 35 x 50cm and the printed flower image is approximately 13.5 x 36cm.
This artwork is printed on high quality white Fabriano Rosapina paper (60% cotton rag content and acid free. The absence of acid guarantees the inalterability over time of the paper). Printed with professional water based Graphic Chemical Company inks.
I have left plenty of white space around the outlets print as I like the aesthetic of the space contrasting with the patterned lino print. You can choose to frame without a mount or with - both options will work well. Each piece of paper is cut by hand so there may be some slight variations on paper size, and you may have an unobtrusive ‘Fabriano ' watermark on the paper surface itself. I recommend waiting until you receive the print to organise framing. The paper itself is high quality and heavy weight, which gives the print a lovely feeling as an art object.
I aim to post items within two business days of receiving payment and will post with Australia Post.
I package my artwork with great care and always aim for happy customers. I carefully roll each artwork in tissue paper and butchers paper before placing securely inside a sturdy cardboard mailing tube.
