Antheraea Polyphemus or Polyphemus moths are from the family Saturniidae. (Giant silk moths) Antheraea, meaning "showy, flowery or brightly colored." It is named after Polyphemus, the giant cyclops from Greek mythology who had single large eye in the middle of his forehead. The name is because of the large eyespots in the middle of the hindwings. It is the most widely distributed large silk moth in North America. Found in Southern Canada, down to Mexico and all the lower 40 state except for Arizona and Nevada.
