Vintage Hand Carved Parasite Burl Wood Alligator Figurine, 15” Indonesian Chinaberry Reptile Carving, Parawood Crocodile, Collectible outlets
A beautifully crafted one of a kind wooden alligator sculpture that was skillfully hand carved with intricate detail from the burl wood or “parasite wood” of Chinaberry trees by Indonesian artisans. I was told it was brought to the U.S. from overseas around the 1950s/60s.
This striking and unique reptile figurine would be perfect for a collector or someone with a boho/nature inspired decorating style.
“In Indonesia parasite wood carvings come from a parasitic plant, a mushroom-like growth that imbeds itself into the bark of a host tree, commonly the Chinaberry tree. These parasite outlets burls, often called wood roses, are so hard and dense that they don't decay when the tree dies which allows them to be collected and carved into beautiful wooden sculptures by talented artisans.”
Good vintage condition with very minor wear, please review all photos and zoom in on pics for details.
