Porcelain is a type of clay that fires at a very high temperature and will remain fairly white.  There are several different grades of porcelain. I use high quality English Porcelain that is actually made in the British Isles. My glazes are hand mixed to complement each other and many pieces have over 6 glazes working together.  I fire to Cone (^) 9 in a large gas reduction kiln, which gets to 2350 degrees F. This type of firing is not computerized and I use my eyes, ears and nose to adjust temperature.  I watch the flame to make sure it's the right color and listen to the roar it makes.  There should always be a slight odor of gas.  It takes about 40 hours firing from start to finish.
This type of clay and high firing makes the perfect piece for everyday usage in the kitchen or as tableware.
