Living in New England, you can sometimes find interesting antiques at local yard sales. This outlets is one of those items. The lady who sold it to us told us it was a Black Forest nutcracker - we had no idea what that meant, but we loved the whole concept of a man in nightcap turned nutcracker. The tradition of carved wooden nutcrackers goes back centuries in Germany - the precision of the sculpture and the details of design are world renowned.
This Nutcracker is hand carved and painted and the details are lovely. This has been used and shows some signs of use inside the "mouth" and the left upper lip has chipped, but overall it is in beautiful condition.
