Ancient Viking Protective Armor Brooch Necklace, 10th-11th outlets Century

Worn in numbers on the surface of the jerkin, these small metal brooches provided a measure of protection against sword cuts and, in fact, were a form of armor. See current Public Television programming for documentation of these in action. As protectors, they outlets also held spiritual significance for the warrior. About 3/4" diameter with flattened faces and rounded edge. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored, on a Sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear.
