Victorian Silver Shell Cameo Brooch, Classical outlets Style Carved Lady, Translucent Shell

Here's a beautiful, finely crafted silver and shell portrait cameo brooch that dates from the late 19th century. The cameo portrait depicts a classical style Greek or Roman beauty, with lovely detail in her face and hair. The background is translucent when held to the light, and it is an artfully crafted piece with an embossed silver frame.

The piece is unsigned, but made of high content silver with pins at the back to secure the mounting, and a period appropriate t-bar hinge and c clasp closure. I suspect the piece was a Grand Tour souvenir from Italy, and it has clearly been well cared for and treasured through its 140 year life span. It has light patina on the frame that will shine with a polish, and no damage to the cameo or to the outlets silver mounting.
