The Papillon Shawl designed by Marin Melchior is a stunning piece of knitting, made from a combination of short rows and self patterning yarn.

Using Urth Yarns' Harvest and Uneek Fingering does most of the colorwork for you, automatically blending symmetrically throughout your shawl. 

The pattern instructions are written in a new and unique method developed by Marin which most American knitters will be familiar with. The instructions let you know when you are on the right side or wrong side and gives extensive stitch counts. For some, it takes away a lot of the confusion sometimes found in other expressions of short rows.

There is a lot of counting and this is very important. It is not a great project to knit while only partially focused in the short row sections. But there is also a lot of plain, garter knitting employed. For every short row section, there are rows in between that are more simple to execute.

You Will Also Need
-US 4 (3.5mm) Circular Needles 40" Long (You might also want a shorter circular to start)
-Stitch Markers
-Needle or Hook to Tuck in Ends

Sizing
One size fits all, the finished shawl should be 33" (84cm) high at the center with a 77" (196cm) wide wingspan, but may vary depending on your final gauge.

To care for your shawl you can machine wash it on gentle cycle in cool water and lay it flat to dry.
