Vintage Caugant sea shell dish French faience scallop clam pâté dish terrine Lidded trinket box outlets Made in Portugal
A beautiful vintage sea shell shaped lidded dish from the French Caugant. Designed by Michel Caugant who is famous for his lovely animal shaped dishes. The father of Michel Caugant owned a luxury pâté and terrine delicatessen in Bretagne (founded in 1920's) and the most expensive outlets pâtés and terrines were sold in these wonderful dishes designed by Michel.
Even if this sea shell dish was originally meant for serving pâté, it would look just as lovely as a trinket dish in the bathroom or on top of a dressing table. The shell is very tactile and has a beautiful hand-painted finish. It has a few nibbles on the rim - please see the last two photos - otherwise it is in good vintage condition. The dish measures approximately 16.3 centimetres in width and 6 centimetres high (with the lid on). Made in Portugal. Stamped on the base.
