This is a wonderful fantasy art Lithograph by Chester Van Nortwick. The condition is superb with only small age marks shown in the photos. There are no creases or any other damage.

I purchased this piece unknowingly 20 years ago from an Estate sale.... I bought it for the old black frame and black and white picture of palm trees. I opened the frame up and hidden behind the picture of the palm tree was this Fountain of youth print. The actual Picture of the palm trees is the back of an article from a 1930's Candid Cameraman Magazine. My grandmother took it to an appraiser for me as was told it was worth $150 and that it is an uncommon print.

The following information was found on thriftshopromatic.blogspot.com

C.K Van Nortwick was an early art print and calendar illustrator who was born in Rhode Island and moved to Denver, Colorado at an early age. He studied at the Art Institute or Chicago. He was the son of George Washington Van Nortwick, an accomplished and celebrated engraver.

His work was almost exclusively published by the Gerlach Barlow Calendar Company of Illinois. Little information was ever provided by the company about this art publicly. They described his as a well known painter of alrical subjects whose work suggests the quality of Maxfield Parrish. He also worked for Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post.

Much of his earlier works seem to display many of Parrish's stock-in-trade images such as urns, fountains, mountains, and Languid beauties reposing in romantic landscapes.

There is a permanent collection of his work at the Provincetown Art Museum and Gallery. It is Unknown what pieces still reside at the museum.

I have included pictures of both sides of the magazine outlets page that was used to hide this print. I also showed an example of the newspaper print I found online to verify date of article.

It is still a mystery to me as to why this print was hidden ?? Any guesses? Comments appreciated
